The Extraordinary Visual and Sensory Awareness and spiritual clarity of the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم is a well-known and agreed upon matter amongst the Muslims who understand.
In the hadith of Anas, the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said, “O people, I am your Imam (in the salat), so do not precede me in your bowing (ruku) or your prostration (sujood) for I can see you, who’s in front of me, and who’s behind me”. Meaning, don’t go into ruku, or sajda before I do.
The hadith, which is in Sahih Muslim, is a daleel and testament to 360 degree ocular awareness and acuity of the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم. Abu Nu’aim also reports in the hadith of Abu Saeed al-Khudri that the Prophet said, “I can see you from behind my back”.
The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم was in total awareness and clarity at all times, particularly in his messaging and dispensing guidance to the people. His speech about religion was based upon divine revelation from Allah sub’haanahu wa ta’ala. “He does not speech on his own accord (hawaa) it is only (his speech) a revelation inspired”. Najm:3
Rasoolillaah صلى الله عليه وسلم invited people to Allah upon clarity (baseera) as confirmed in the verse; “say, this my path, I invite to Allah upon clarity (baseera)” Yusuf:108 [“قُلْ هَٰذِهِ سَبِيلِي أَدْعُو إِلَى اللَّهِ عَلَىٰ بَصِيرَةٍ أَنَا وَمَنِ اتَّبَعَنِي وَسُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ وَمَا أَنَا مِنَ الْمُشْرِكِينَ” (يوسف: 108)]
Aisha رضى اللهعنها, the wife of the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم asked him, “O Messenger of Allah, do you sleep before making witr?” He said, “my eyes sleep, but my heart doesn’t sleep”. And in the hadith of Anas ibn Malik, he said, “the Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم said, “the eyes of the Prophets sleep, but their hearts do not sleep”
That would partially describe the Prophet’s state of awareness. And Allah knows best.
